ADEN – Southern media sources in Aden have revealed that the handing over of military camps to the Southern Transition Council has formally been agreed upon between the Saudi Arabia and the UAE.
The sources said that the extradition process, which is carried out under the supervision of the Saudi-UAE military commission, is considered a formality.
Moreover, the sources explained that the STC has deployed a number of formations of the Security Belt and elite forces loyal to the Emirates at the former military camps of Hadi’s presidential protection brigades, under the supervision of Brigadier Saleh al-Sayyid , Major General Shalal Shayea and other southern Yemeni separatist military leaders loyal to the Emirates.
The sources confirmed that the Saudi mediation committee that arrived in Aden concluded an undisclosed agreement with the STC on the formal turnover of the sites of the presidential protection brigades to the UAE, in order to save face for the Saudi-Emirati alliance and cover up the conflict between the two countries and their mercenaries.
According to the sources, the Southern Transition Council has made several conditions to the Saudi committee, and considers those conditions to be binding.
Most notably amongst thee demands are the refusal to accept any more activity by the Islah Party in the south of Yemen. In addition, the UAE demanded that General Ali Mohsen al-Ahmar should be removed from his post as Vice President, of the Saudi-backed Hadi administration.
Hadi is also reportedly demanded to appoint governors and general directors of directorates from the Emirati-held south of Yemen. Even though Hadi retains the nominal power to assign these function, the Emirati plan demands that any such appointment must be approved by the Southern Transition Council.
