SHABWAH – Forces loyal to exiled former president Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi have on Sunday evening repelled a sweeping attack by the Shabwah Elite Forces in Ataq city of Shabwah province, in southeastern Yemen.
“The most violent attack of the elite militias was repulsed by Hadi’s forces, and an armored vehicle and two cars belonging to the militias were seized,” a military source in Ataq said.
He added that the forces loyal to Hadi advanced towards the sites of Ksarat bin Sinan and Fuwairis after the retreat of the UAE-backed elite militias.
The Southern Transitional Council (STC) described its defeat in Ataq city as a “tactical withdrawal”.
Earlier in the day, Hadi loyalist forces waged an attack against sites of the STC militias, seizing a number of military vehicles and taking control over the al-Arsal hilltop.
