SHABWAH -Saudi -backed forces in Shabwah province, eastern Yemen, have arrested four activists in Beyhan district, about 200 kilometers from Ataq, the provincial capital, local sources reported on Sunday.
According to the sources, Islah militias kidnapped activists Taha Hadeer, Muzaffar Choban, Hijab al-Najjar, and Saleh Matih, and took them to an unknown destination.
The sources reported on Thursday that the governor of Shabwah in the Saudi-led coalition backed government ordered the arrest of 17 politicians and media personnel, including journalist Jamal Schniter, who was released hours after his arrest and did not know the fate of the rest of the apprehended persons.
The sources also said that the crackdown campaign included the arrest of activists on social media who were opposed to the Islah party in the province.
The Islah factions have been terrorising Shabwah for two months, following their taking of control over the province, with the goal of controlling the southern provinces and exploiting their wealth.
