TAIZ – Gunmen belonging to the Islah Party have stormed Al-Thawra Public Hospital in Taiz on Tuesday. This was confirmed by Yemen Press Agency based on security sources.
According to the sources, the Islah militias, recruited in the so-called 170th Air Defense Brigade, stormed Al-Thawra Public Hospital after they clashed with the hospital’s guards.
The Wahhabi militias entered the hospital looking for people to kidnap, and terrorized patients and medical staff on duty at the hospital, one of the sources said.
The attack on the hospital coincided with marches and demonstrations carried out by the Muslim Brotherhood (of which Islah is the Yemeni branch), demanding the dismissal of Dr. Ahmed Sofi and the appointing of one Faris Absi, who is believed to affiliated with Islah party, as the head of the hospital.
The conflict comes as the latest bout of infighting between several Saudi-backed militias and mercenary gangs. Taiz city is close to the front lines, and is at the moment still being held by the Saudi-led invaders.
