SANA’A – The air defenses of the Yemeni Armed Forces have shot down a highly advanced US-made spy aircraft belonging to the Saudi-led invading coalition in the province of Hodeidah on Thursday night, a military official told Yemen Press Agency.
According to the official, the drone, a MQ9 model, was “carrying out a surveillance mission on the western coast.” He confirmed that the air defenses downed the drone aircraft in Hodeidah province, which caused it to crash immediately. “The MQ9 was down by a surface-to-air missile” the official added.
On Friday, the military media of the Yemeni army published photographic evidence of the wreckage. Yemeni Armed Forces spokesperson Brigadier General Yahya Saree said that the air defenses shot down the MQ9 aircraft while it was “carrying out a surveillance mission near Za’afran villageon the western coast.” The general furtheremore confirmed that the US-made drone aircraft was down by a surface-to-air missile.
The photographs show Yemeni forces inspecting the wrecked aircraft, scrapping it for parts and celebrating their victory over the invaders.
